Redpanda Acquires SQL Engine Oxla to Power Agentic Data

💎 In a landmark first exit for 4growth VC, Polish-born Oxla is acquired by Redpanda to serve as the SQL backbone for the next generation of AI data agents

Exit alert from Poland’s tech scene: San Francisco–based Redpanda, a leading real-time data infrastructure company, has acquired Oxla, a Warsaw-based startup building a distributed SQL engine optimized for real-time analytics and AI agent interaction. The deal not only marks Redpanda’s strategic expansion into federated SQL and enterprise-grade agentic architecture, but also represents the first portfolio exit for 4growth VC — and a milestone for Poland’s deep tech export narrative.

Redpanda is pioneering the Agentic Data Plane (ADP) — a platform that allows enterprise-grade AI agents to safely query, transform, and act on enterprise data with traceability and governance. At the heart of this architecture is Oxla’s engine, enabling both humans and agents to run standard SQL queries across real-time and at-rest datasets, spanning multiple sources in hybrid cloud environments.

“We believed in Oxla at the earliest stages. This acquisition confirms the technological depth of the team and the global relevance of what they built,” said Marcin Jaszczuk, Managing Partner at 4growth VC. “It’s not just a successful exit — it’s a door opener to Redpanda’s upcoming IPO and signals more liquidity events from Poland’s venture ecosystem.”

From Warsaw to Global Infrastructure Layer

Oxla was backed in 2024 by a syndicate of top-tier investors including 4growth VC, Warsaw Equity Group, Lead Ventures, and TQ Ventures, signaling early confidence in Poland’s data infra talent. The acquisition took place exactly one year after the investment, underscoring the fast maturity of the technology and market demand.

The new Agentic Data Plane, combining Redpanda’s streaming platform with Oxla’s SQL engine, introduces a robust foundation for AI agents with capabilities like:

  • Federated querying and transformation from multiple data lakes, warehouses, and streams

  • Agentic access control (AAC) with short-lived, scoped tokens for secure agent actions

  • Full observability for all agent prompts, retrievals, and actions — enabling auditability at scale

  • MCP and A2A compliance for controlled enterprise deployments

Enterprise giants including Activision Blizzard, Moody’s, Cisco, Texas Instruments, and Vodafone already rely on Redpanda to process hundreds of terabytes daily. Oxla’s addition strengthens Redpanda’s position as a foundational layer for AI-native enterprise software.

A Win for Poland’s Tech Ecosystem

While Redpanda scales globally, this acquisition is a win for Poland’s maturing innovation ecosystem. It reinforces Warsaw’s position as a hub for core technology startups, not just software applications. More importantly, it provides a blueprint for global venture-backed M&A stemming from CEE.

“Oxla is proof that deep tech from Poland can shape global infrastructure,” said Jaszczuk. “And it shows that strategic M&A — not just follow-on rounds — is how local investors can win globally.”
